I recently received a bottle of the Glenrothes Vintage 1998 Scotch Whisky. Sure my friend works for Skyy, but it was unexpected just the same.
The Glenrothes is a Speyside Single Malt Whisky that bottles by vintage, not age. Therefore, much like a fine wine, each vintage is unique. The 1998 is no exception.
The nose of this whisky is pure smoothness with a slight woodiness and hints of dried fruit. You sense none of the harshness of the alcohol.
The is Gordon Motion’s first bottling as Malt Master and he describes it as, “Carmen Miranda’s hat in a bottle.”
On the tongue, the 1998 is full of flavor, smooth flavor. Dried cherries, vanilla, caramel. Fitting for Carmen Miranda, hints of tropical fruit. The whisky has a nice warm finish that doesn’t linger. Basically, the 1998 is a glass full of yum!
We give it a thumbs up.
The Glenrothes Vintage 1998 retails for $40–$50.
