Welcome to week two of our Spring Training Brew Crew, baseball fans! Last week we took you through the popular craft breweries of Florida’s Grapefruit League and now it’s time to hop a jet and head west to the Cactus League! I’ve been in search of Arizona’s tastiest craft beers to savor while you’re watching your favorite teams prepare for this upcoming season. From Tempe to Surprise, from Avondale to Mesa, get your frosty mug out of the freezer and come along for part two of the Spring Training Brew Crew!
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim shook things up when they added Albert Pujols to their team. No doubt, this development makes their Spring Training session in Temple, Arizona one to watch this season. If you’re looking for a great lager to add to your lineup, look no further than Dave’s Electric Brewpub. Dave’s has been an Arizona microbrew institution for twenty-two years, right after Arizona legalized microbreweries. As Arizona’s first legal brewer they started in Bisbee, Arizona and developed their four signature beers, the same four they serve to this very day at their Tempe brewpub. Their most popular beer by far is Dave’s Electric Beer, a golden, hoppy lager that goes down very easy from either the tap or in a bottle.
San Diego baseball fans wouldn’t have too far to see their Padres prepare for the 2012 season in Peoria, Arizona. After a Spring Training game, feel free to head up to North Phoenix and stop by the Old World Brewery. Make sure you taste the tart and refreshing Old World Wit once you stop by. The Old World Wit is a citrusy burst of flavor that is equal parts spicy and refreshing in a pale golden body. If you crave refreshing notes of orange with a pale malt, Old World Brewery has your fix.
Now if you’re looking for the beer that will take you beyond the last pitch, I have Arizona’s most-celebrated beer on deck for you! There’s a gem in Northwest Tuscon inside the ThunderCanyon Brewery that will have Spring Training fans driving for miles! Thunder Canyon’s Warhead Stout is a strong, smoky Russian Imperial-style malt that goes down very east for a stout but packs the same amount of punch as some of the heavy-hitters out there on tap. It’s creamy, it’s toasty, it’s everything you could wish for from the best Arizona has to offer. After the last pitch is thrown, the Warhead Stout is guaranteed to keep your party going into extra innings!
