Giorgio G is fashion icon Giorgio Gucci’s foray into cognac. The distribution company, Emperor’s Brand, sent a sample of the Premier Cru Special Limited Edition, which is aged over 50 years. This was one of those situations where the small sample bottle left me wanting more.
The name implies it’s luxury liquor, but the taste confirms it. Made from Ugni Blanc grapes from the Grande Champagne area, it has a deep gold color and gentle nose with hints of honeysuckle and plum. It feels soft in your mouth and then comes in with nice vanilla, anise and nutmeg flavors. There’s very little heat and no astringency, making for a smooth sipping experience.
Definitely not made for mixing, Special Limited Edition is a delicate sipping cognac–the kind you imagine soap opera villains drinking as they stare out the window contemplatively. I’m not sure of the price … but I’m sure it’s one of those “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it” situations. Keep your eye out for this one, and by all means drink it if you get the chance.
