It’s been awhile since we reviewed a Rum so we thought we would review one that we really enjoy – the Flor de Cana Centenario Gold 18 Year Old Rum. But, truly, what isn’t to like about a well made 18 year old rum? The Flor de Cana Centenario hails from Nicaragua (although from what I could find, they source the sugar cane for their Rum all over Central America) and is the star of Flor de Cana’s very impressive portfolio of Rums.
The Flor de Cana Centenario is clear, bright amber color with brownish hues. On the palate, the Rum is clean with aged, medium intense aromas of raisins, dates, dried apricots, orange peel, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, anise, and cocoa. On the palate, the Centenario had medium plus acidity, smooth mouth feel and a medium plus intensity of flavors of raisins, dates, figs, dried apricots, orange peel, dark caramel, vanilla, cocoa and muted spice notes of anise, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Medium plus finish. Very good spirit.
As this is an aged Rum, I would recommend drinking it neat or a booze forward drink, like the Mai Tai, a Rum Old Fashion or a Hot Toddy.
