Vieux Carre or “Old Square” is how the local French refer to the French Quarter. Created at the Hotel Monteleone in 1938 by bartender Walter Bergeron, the Vieux Carre has become one of the quintessential New Orleans cocktails.
Ingredients
- 1 oz rye whiskey
- 1 oz cognac
- 1 oz sweet vermouth
- 1 tsp Benedictine DOM
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
Instructions
Fill a glass halfway with ice, then pour in ingredients. Stir well. Garnish with a lemon twist.
