19th-century bartender Jerry Thomas is known as the father of the American cocktail and most just called him “Professor.” With stints in New York, London, San Francisco and other cities about the globe, he spread cocktail culture the world over.

Imbibe! is Jerry’s story and a great read. The author does a great job of capturing cocktail culture of the late 1800s. Truly a great read.

Less Beer: InBev Gobbles Anheuser-Busch

Belgian-Brazilian brewer InBev has has purchased St. Louis Brewery Anheuser-Busch for almost $52 billion. After giving up a fight, the iconic brewery gave in and agreed to be acquired by the maker of Beck’s, Stella Artois and others. The new company will be called Anheuser-Busch InBev and Budweiser will be its flagship brand.

Drinkers Earn More

In a recent study, economists concluded that drinkers earn more than nondrinkers.

Woo-hoo!

“Instead of earning less money than nondrinkers, drinkers earn more,” authors of the study, Bethany Peters and Edward Stringham, wrote. More specifically, the study found that workers who drank in a social setting earned more than those who tipped a glass at home.”
