Friday means end of work week and time to kickback. We’re continuing with our drink menus from Tim Rita, mixologist extraordinaire at the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki. Here’s a flight of three drinks he created in honor of the Tin Man Triathlon, a lightweight race that is a tongue-in-cheek node to the more prominent Iron Man on the Big Island. (FYI, this post is from our friends at the Hawaii travel zine Hawaiirama – part of their ongoing Hawaii eating and drinking coverage).
“Ehukai” – for the swimming leg. Word means “red water” in Hawaiian – as in, seeing that red or orange buoy bobbing out on the horizon that you need to swim around.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Kai Coconut Pandan (flavored vodka)
.75 Pama
4 pieces of Red mangos or (Rotui Mango)
2 basil leaves
1 oz fresh lime and simple
1 oz cream
Directions:
Muddle mango and basil. Add ingredients. Shake and double strain into martini glass. Garnish with a surfboard shaped mango skin or orange peel.
“Thyme to Roll” – for the biking leg, natch. A nice savory concoction.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Makers Mark (infused with blueberries)
.5 oz orange curacao
2 sprigs of thyme
6 blueberries
1.5 oz fresh lemon and simple syrup
Directions:
Muddle fruit and thyme with syrup. Add spirits. Shake and double strain into a rocks glass over crushed ice. Garnish with thyme sprig and blueberries.
“Revive Elixir” – for the run (if you need a drink) features Hawaii’s own Kai vodka. This is the lightest of the bunch.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Kai Lychee vodka
4 fresh raspberries
3 fresh calamansi
2 mint sprigs
Directions:
Top with a homemade acai berry and soursop soda. Garnish with raspberries and mint.
Pau hana, everyone!
